conceptualizing a scene in dark academia, an aesthetic I’m drawn to and repulsed by

This is a room full of books—no walls, no windows—just a tight U of bookshelves surrounding an ornate bed. Visiting in between many years of college, the mom’s adult son sits upright on the bed; he’s in between many velvet covers. These are his books. These are her covers.

The son is emphatically harvesting his books, tearing and sorting pages, as he spouts recently learned philosophies to the room. The mom’s hands are covered in paste; she’s using the son’s divided tearings to papier-mâché over ceramic vases.

She isn’t creating anything that isn’t already there: the distinction of decorating decorations. She isn’t listening either. The mom wants to remember to reposition the full-length mirror in the guest room, so she can rent it to ladies going shopping.

In view of this scene is an adjoining bathroom with a brown tiled floor perfectly littered with cigarette butts: the distinction of seedless seeds.

  2. I love this so much. The scenes are so vivid. "The mom wants to remember to reposition the full-length mirror in the guest room, so she can rent it to ladies going shopping." This line makes me feel so many things and takes me back to the mall dressing room. The comradery of the dressing room can be so sacred, similar to that of a late night bar bathroom. You look so beautiful, you definitely need to buy that. A comment from a stranger always appearing more validating than a blood relative can ever be.
